The headlines are still being dominated by the fallout from Newcastle United's abject defeat to Southampton.

Daryl Janmaat left the St Mary's Stadium with two suspected broken fingers after punching the dressing room wall in anger.

The defender had limped out of the game, which relegation-threatened Newcastle lost 3-1, with a groin injury.

Janmaat's defensive colleague Jamaal Lascelles let rip in the dressing room after the game, which left the club six points adrift of Premier League safety ahead of Saturday's game against Swansea City.

The 22-year-old also gave a frank interview after the game after his more senior colleagues, including stand-in captain Jonjo Shelvey, shunned requests for interviews.

Four of United's final six games are at St James's Park.

And manager Rafa Benitez feels home advantage could prove decisive in the club's bid to stay in the top flight.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's Under-21 and Under-18 sides have also lost games over the past few days.

Football development manager Peter Beadsley has given his reaction to last night's 4-1 Under-21 Premier League defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at St James's Park.

Finally, our columnist @GallowgateShots has given his brutal verdict on the Southampton game.
