Steven Taylor has slammed Newcastle United's performance in the shocking defeat to Chelsea.

The experienced defender said there are "no excuses" for Newcastle United’s players after the club’s campaign took another turn for the worse.

Steve McClaren’s side dropped back into the Premier League’s relegation zone after Saturday’s 5-1 hammering at Stamford Bridge

"It was a sickening feeling coming off the pitch," said long-serving Taylor.

"And the long wait (to the next game) doesn't help.

"It's going to play on our minds. It's hurt the boys."

Meanwhile, under-fire head coach McClaren has been handed a major boost - with the return to fitness of striker Papiss Cisse.

"The past two months have been frustrating," said Cisse.

"Now I'm back to Newcastle to resume training (and) I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

"I feel fit, sharp and very focused."
And finally, former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark has landed a new job.

The ex-Blackpool boss says he is looking forward to a more stable working environment with Kilmarnock than during his chaotic reign at Bloomfield Road.

The former Newcastle, Sunderland and Fulham midfielder has been appointed Gary Locke’s Rugby Park successor after penning a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Clark said: "I just felt Kilmarnock was the right club for me. The infrastructure is in place.

"They have a great ethos of bringing young players through which is a big belief I share."
