Despite the first rule of fight club being ‘do not talk about fight club’, Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren says the Magpies must become a fight club ahead of tomorrow’s game against Premier League champions Chelsea.

McClaren, looking for a reaction after three dismal defeats on the trot, said: “They’ve got to (fight). There’s no two ways about it. You’ve got to. This is as far as you go back – you’ve now got to stride forward. We’ve got to take it forward.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum feels the players must be “brave” enough to “play free”.

“We must stay positive, because if we don’t stay positive, it is going to go wrong, but we need men now out on the field,” said the summer signing.

Wijnaldum is also desperate for fed-up fans to stand by the club in their troubled times.

“I hope the fans can still support us, because we are going to need them until the end of the season,” he said.
