Newcastle United news: McCormack bid on eve of opener, Sissoko and Thauvin latest

Newcastle United's opening night opponents Fulham are set to lose Ross McCormack.

Aston Villa, set to lose defender Ciaran Clark to United, have had a £12million bid for the striker accepted by the club.

Newcastle open their Championship campaign on Friday night with a game against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

United, also close to signing midfielder Mohamed Diame from Hull City, have also been linked with McCormack this summer given the need for striking reinforcements.

The Clark and Diame deals could be confirmed later today, with both players having undergone medicals on Tyneside yesterday.

As far as outgoings are concerned, Real Madrid are ready to step up their interest in wantaway Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko.

And winger Florian Thauvin is reportedly ready to reject an offer from Lazio so he can return to former club Olympique Marseille.

Meanwhile, United manager Rafa Benitez has been talking about where Jonjo Shelvey and Aleksandar Mitrovic stand at St James's Park.

Benitez has also spoken about the "trust" his has in versatile Vurnon Anita.

Finally, West Ham United are in talks with Inter Milan over a loan move for former Newcastle defender Davide Santon, according to Sky Sports.
