Newcastle United go into the final week of the transfer window on the back of a demoralising defeat to Watford.

And head coach Steve McClaren faces an anxious wait as the club attempt to sign more reinforcements to stave off the threat of relegation.

The result left the club 18th in the Premier League and two points adrift of safety.

McClaren admitted the club's position was "uncomfortable" after the 2-1 loss at Vicarage Road.

The match underlined misfiring striker Aleksandar Mitrovic's need for help up front, according to McClaren.

Captain Fabricio Coloccini has also given a player's view of the need for more "quality" in the squad.
