The January transfer window is on the horizon – and Newcastle United have been linked with a £15million striker swoop.
The Magpies are believed to be keeping tabs on Marseille hotshot Michy Batshuayi.
The Belgian international is valued at £15m, but Newcastle face competition to sign him from their former manager Alan Pardew, according to reports today.
Palace boss Pardew is believed to be monitoring the Congolese-born 22-year-old as he looks to strengthen his strikeforce.
Newcastle have a long-standing interest in Charlie Austin, but were wanred off him by new QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink here.
They – and rivals Sunderland – have also been linked with a move for Anthony Koura, a 22 year old striker currently playing in France’s Ligue 2 with Nimes Olympique.
Elsewhere, former Newcastle United midfielder Jermaine Jenas has made some strong comments about players not being able to handle the pressure at St James’s Park.
Jenas, who famously quit the club for Tottenham, citing Newcastle being like ‘living in a goldfish bowl’, says some players used to exaggerate injuries so as not to play when the going got tough on Tyneside.
However, he has praised the attitude and commitment of man of the moment Gini Wijnaldum.
