Newcastle United have been linked with a loan swoop for Spurs and England star Andros Townsend.

Swansea City are also keen on taking Townsend on loan in January, according to reports today.

The 24-year-old wideman has struggled for first-team football under Mauricio Pochettino and needs to play in order to fulfil his ambition of making England's Euro 2016 squad.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are facing up to the possibility of being without Jack Colback for several weeks.

Colback had to be subbed in the 3-0 derby defeat to Sunderland after a crunching tackle by Lee Cattermole and he left the stadium on crutches.

He had a scan yesterday and the club’s medical staff were today analysing the results.

Fabricio Coloccini is expected to find out today whether he will have to serve a suspension after being red carded at the Stadium of Light.

The decision to send off Coloccini for a foul on Steve Fletcher in the 45th minute left boss Steve McClaren fuming.
