Newcastle United youngster Ivan Toney is set to leave the club on loan, with Barnsley the favourites to sign him.

Head coach Steve McClaren is prepared to loan out summer signing Toney so he can gain more first-team experience.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burton Albion had been keen to take the 19-year-old, signed from Northampton Town in the summer, on a short-term deal.
Meanwhile, Toon captain Fabricio Coloccini has hailed the contribution of goalkeeper Rob Elliot in helping to secure the three points at Bournemouth.

Injury concern Elliot had to fend off wave after wave of Cherries attacks but held firm.

Coloccini said: "I’m pleased we managed to win the game for him, because he played so well. He was injured for most of last week, but he came out straight away and said that he wanted to play."
Ayoze Perez scored the winner for Newcastle United as they climbed out of the Premier League’s relegation zone with a 1-0 victory at Bournemouth on Saturday.

And a host of top flight clubs are ready to swoop for him in January.

Liverpool and Man United have both been linked to Newcastle forward Perez.
