Newcastle United’s goalkeeper situation is continuing to dominate headlines for the Magpies.
With Tim Krul out for the rest of the season, and Karl Darlow also on the sidelines with an ankle injury, Newcastle’s goalkeeping options have been severely reduced.
They still have Rob Elliot and youngster Freddie Woodman to call upon, but reports today suggest Manchester United outcast Victor Valdes could be a target for Steve McClaren.
Valdes is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after falling out with Louis van Gaal, but given he’s under contract he wouldn’t be able to sign for another club until the transfer window opens in January.
Newcastle’s squad already has their 25-man maximum so they can’t sign any out-of-contract players either.
Elsewhere, Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba scored a stunner last night on international duty.
The defender fired home a 25-yard strike for DR Congo to win their friendly against Gabon.
Meanwhile, a major report in to what caused the downing of flight MH17 with the loss of 298 lives, including two Newcastle United supporters, will conclude it was shot down by a Russian-made Buk missile, according to a Dutch newspaper.
The findings of the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) will be released later in The Hague to relatives of those on the Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur Boeing 777 last July.
Newcastle fans John Alder and Liam Sweeney were travelling to see the club play on a pre-season tour of New Zealand.
In Sunderland, former Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce will hold his first press conference this afternoon since being named as the Black Cats’ new manager.
Allardyce will take on his old club in his second game in charge on October 25.
