Newcastle United news: Winger set for weekend Magpies return plus Fabian Schar & Florian Lejeune latest

Newcastle United rising star Adam Wilson is set to make his long-awaited return from injury this week.

The club have confirmed the 19-year-old winger will be in the under-23 squad for their Premier League International Cup clash against Benfica at Whitley Park on Friday evening (7pm).

If he takes part, it will be Wilson’s first competitive game for 10 months.

Speaking to nufc.co.uk, Wilson said: “I just want to get out on the pitch and start playing again.

“It's very important to get off to a winning start, and especially for myself after coming back after a very long time out.

"The team want to do well because it is the International Cup and Benfica are a big team. I think a lot of the lads want to go out there and show that they can play well and get a strong result.”

Meanwhile, United have dropped a hint that defensive duo Florian Lejeune and Fabian Schar could return on Monday night.
