Miguel Almiron then doubled The Magpies’ advantage in the first half with a stunning volley in the left side of the goal.
5. Dan Burn - 7
Saw a big chance early on with his right foot saved by Leno. Had little to do at the other end of the pitch either as he slotted seamlessly back in at left-back.
6. Sean Longstaff - 7
Was on the receiving end of a red card challenge inside the opening 10 minutes. Pounced to score his first goal of the season on the stroke of half-time.
7. Bruno Guimaraes - 8
Grabbed an assist with a delicate clip for Almiron to finish. Was a creative force in the middle despite playing deep as he helped Newcastle take advantage of their extra man.
8. Joe Willock - 8
Played a key role in the first goal by spraying the ball out wide to Kieran Trippier and heading across goal for Callum Wilson to turn in. Denied by Leno early in the second half but grabbed another assist with a well-weighted pass across goal for Almiron to turn in.
