But, according to the Daily Mail, United have a job keeping the young midfielder on their books with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester City and Bayern Munich keeping tabs on the Magpies’ under-18.

The report states: “We understand that Clark would prefer to stay with his hometown club but there has been interest from Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Bayern Munich over the course of recent months, such is his reputation through academy football.”

The Mail story continues: “It is Spurs now thought to be frontrunners, should Clark and his family decide his development is best served away from Newcastle.”

Clark had two spells at United as a player, making just shy of 200 appearances between 1990-1997 before returning to Newcastle for his final year as a player in 2006/07.
