And that need has only increased with Dwight Gayle limping out of United’s first pre-season game with a knee injury. Andy Carroll is back to goalscoring ways in black and white – and that can only be a good thing – but can he be relied upon having netted ZERO in the top flight last season?
1. Rhian Brewster - Liverpool
Will he be allowed to leave or won't he? England under-21 frontman Brewster has a season with Championship side Swansea City last season earning rave reviews. And by all accounts has taken pre-season by storm under the watch of Jurgen Klopp. The striker with either remain on Merseyside or be sent out for Premier League experience. This kind of deal is unlikely to get the juices flowing for United fans. Photo: John Powell
2. Ollie Watkins - Brentford
A hard-working, goal-laden striker with a list of clubs as long as your arm monitoring his situation. Watkins looks likely to leave Brentford after they failed to make it to the Premier League via the play-offs, so too is former United target Said Benrahma. A move to West Ham has been mooted, but they seem to be linked with every forward going at the moment. Photo: Catherine Ivill
3. Callum Wilson - Bournemouth
Quick with an eye for goal but a sketchy injury record. Would this be the type of signing to guarantee goals at United? Another player who previous manager Rafa Benitez was a big fan of, he'd definitely get the Magpies fanbase excited. Proven Premier League quality comes at a cost though - and Wilson's will no doubt be north of £20 million. Too rich for United? Unlikely to be too rich for Spurs or West Ham. Photo: Catherine Ivill
4. Patrik Schick - AS Roma
Bayer Leverkusen lead the race for the AS Roma striker this summer, but RB Leipzig also remain interested. Newcastle United have been keen on the player for a year - and made a play to get him in the January window, to no avail. A strong, internationally-capped forward with Czech Republic, he'd be a decent fit on Tyneside, if any move materialises. Photo: Pool
