Newcastle United are on the brink of a £300million takeover by Amanda Staveley, the PIF of Saudi Arabia and the Reuben brothers, which could be confirmed by the end of the week if there are no hitches.

While everyone awaits an official announcement regarding the sale, there has been speculation surrounding the managerial role at St James’s Park - currently occupied by Steve Bruce and is expected to be until the end of the season.

But according to Sky Sports, Pochettino is top of the proposed new owners' wanted list and are willing to make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the world.

Pochettino, appearing on BT Sports for their playback of Spurs' dramatic Champions League semi-final win over Ajax last May, wasn't asked directly about United's reported interest, though made his love for the North London club very clear.

The Argentine said: “Before I die, I want to manage again at Tottenham and try to win one title because I want to know how it feels to win one title with Tottenham.

“The fans are amazing and all the love that we received was amazing and that is a good opportunity to pay back all the love they showed us from day one."

Indeed, Pochettino, among speaking about his fondness for Spurs, briefly referenced his future plans.

"It was an amazing journey that finished in the way that, of course, no one wants," he added. "But deeper in my chest, my soul, my heart - I am sure that we will cross (paths) again.

"From the day that I left the club, my dream is to be back and to try to finish the work that we didn't finish.

"We were so close to winning the right trophies. The Premier League and the Champions League.

"But we stopped and, of course, I am looking forward to move on and I am so motivated for the next project.

"But deep inside I would like to be back one day because the club is special. The fans are so special."
