Newcastle United were today linked with a move for Israeli superstar Eran Zahavi.
The Sun claim that Rafa Benitez has inquired about the Maccabi Tel Aviv playmaker, while Ajax and clubs from China are also believed to be interested.
Zahavi, who operates as a second striker, has scored 125 goals in 153 starts for his club, though failed to make the grade in Italy with Palermo.
Newcastle have long been linked with Fulham striker Ross McCormack, but reports today suggest Sheffield wednesday are also keen on the player.
However, a reported release clause in his contract of £13million will put a number of clubs off.
Elsewhere, Benitez has been talking about transfers and how the early work is he’s been doing with managing director Lee Charnley is ‘positive’.

Meanwhile, transfer flop Seydou Doumbia has hit back at suggestions he wasn’t fit enough during his ill-fated loan spell at Newcastle.
Doumbia, who only made three brief substitute appearances, said his condition wasn’t an uissue – it was just Rafa Benitez didn’t rate him!
