Newcastle United transfer news: Steve Bruce 'failed' with £17.2m striker bid, Magpies star reportedly makes worrying dressing room claim

The fallout from Newcastle United’s defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend continues.

The biggest talking point from the 3-0 defeat at the Amex Stadium has, of course, been the future of head coach Steve Bruce after fans loudly demanded he was sacked.

However, as everyone knows by now, Magpies owner Mike Ashley has no plans to relieve the 60-year-old of his duties anytime soon.

It has been claimed elsewhere this week that unrest is growing behind the scenes as United linger just two points above the Premier League drop zone.

And as per Football Insider, one member of the Toon playing squad is said to have told friends he’s never seen a football club and dressing room fall apart like Newcastle have in the last few days.

The report adds that some players are “fuming” at Ashley’s decision to back Bruce because they have lost all confidence in the former Manchester United defender.

Apparently, players have openly expressed concerns that Bruce may still be in charge, even if Newcastle are in the Championship next season.

One individual who will be key to the club’s survival hopes is Callum Wilson.

And as written by the same publication, the 29-year-old is confident he’ll be fit to face Tottenham Hotspur in the first game back after the international break.

Wilson, who has missed the last six games with a hamstring injury, is Newcastle’s top scorer with 10 league goals after arriving from Bournemouth for £20million last summer.

Indeed, Wilson, on Tuesday, posted a video with some of those goals on his Instagram page, with the caption: “Can’t wait to get back out there.”

Here are the latest headlines surrounding Newcastle United, including reports of a failed striker bid, and their Premier League rivals:
