Newcastle United transfer news: Toon in line for bargain PL raid, Euro club willing to sell key summer target

Newcastle United continued their improved run of form with a 1-0 home win over Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

The Magpies once again had Arsenal loanee Joe Willock to thank for the vital intervention, with the midfielder scoring the only goal of the match to take his personal tally to six in his last six outing.

Beyond that, Wednesday night also saw fans return to St. James’ Park for the first time since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Despite the Toon Army securing all three points, some supporters still saw fit to vent their frustrations at Steve Bruce’s tenure in the dugout.

Speaking after the match about booing from the stands, the 60-year-old, who has spoken about his determination to see out the final year of his contract: “It was great to see fans back in.

“It’s a different spectacle. As I’ve said from day one, I won’t be everyone's cup of tea, unfortunately, but that’s the way it is.

"Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. That’s the way it is, unfortunately.”

Reflecting on the game, Bruce said: “We had some really good opportunities, and didn’t take them, but the goal itself was the real bit of quality in the game.

“It was a great pass from Allan Saint-Maximin, and it’s a great cross from Jacob Murphy, and, of course, it would have to be Joe Willock again, wouldn’t it? Six (goals) in six is a quite remarkable achievement.”
