The Magpies spent most of the campaign battling relegation, but a resurgence in recent months was enough to eventually secure a comfortable spot in mid-table.
Whether or not they are able to bring in fresh blood this summer to bolster their squad remains to be seen, however.
The expectation is that funds could be quite tight, and in response to that speculation, pundit Lee Hendrie has touted the unthinkable – selling mercurial winger Allan Saint-Maximin.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, the former Aston Villa midfielder said: “Wow, what a player.
"He, I think, has turned the season massively since coming back from injury.
"Some of the things he does… he’s been standout. He offers that in abundance going forward, he runs with the ball great, he scores some brilliant goals. He has been the big difference since coming back into the team.
"It’s all about keeping him. If you look at the [Adama] Traores of this world, I feel he’s better than them because he can run with the ball, he’s got great ability, he's got the confidence, every time I’ve seen him play.
"He’s one of them players that I feel they’ll do well to keep. I’ve got to say that he’s one of them I think will possibly go.
"I think he’s done enough.”
