Newcastle United transfer news: Toon plot double Chelsea loan raid, Magpies to battle West Ham for Europa League winner

Newcastle United fans will be hoping a bit of a revamp in their squad this summer.

While their 12th-placed finish was probably a lot higher than most supporters will have been expecting, the safety of mid-table didn’t change the fact that there are a number of very real frustrations that many feel are yet to be addressed.

Whether or not the Toon hierarchy are able to do that with a paltry budget of around £10 million remains to be seen, however.

According to recent reports, Steve Bruce could be working with that meagre amount as he looks to bolster his playing staff this summer, and former England international Danny Mills has hit out at the update.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “£10 million is pocket change in Premier League terms, it’s pathetic almost.

“Basically they’re saying ‘Here’s the same squad.’ That’s what it will be. Simple as that. There will not be much more than that.

“But they can stay up because Steve Bruce is a really good manager. He’s just not getting any help.”

Meanwhile, ex-West Ham star Trevor Sinclair has argued that Leeds United are a bigger club than the Magpies.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “I think historically you would say Leeds [are bigger]. I think they have had a fantastic season.

"You just look at them in the ‘60s what they achieved as a football club, you would say Leeds, but Newcastle are a huge football club in their own right.”
