Newcastle United transfer news: Toon plot shock raid on PL rivals, Towering defender on summer radar

Newcastle United put on quite a show in their 4-3 defeat to Manchester City on Friday night.

The Magpies took part in an engrossing encounter under the lights at St. James’ Park against Pep Guardiola’s newly-crowned champions, with goals from Emil Krafth, Joelinton, and Joe Willock threatening to leave the Blues with a bloody nose.

The Toon Army even led on two occasions, but a Ferran Torres hat-trick and a strike from goal Joao Cancelo were enough to deny them of what would have been a famous victory.

And City manager Guardiola was quick to lavish praise on Newcastle for their impressive display.

He said: “I think a brilliant game for both sides.

“Unfortunately, there was no people in the stadium. Incredibly tough opponent, like the last years. Always, we struggle a lot to beat Newcastle here at home. They’re so physical and strong, and have runners like (Allan) Saint-Maximin and Joelinton and, of course, (Miguel) Almiron and (Joe) Willock. Top, top side.”

Guardiola added: “We play against 10 players in the box, they defend so deep. They are so, so fast on the counter. A tough, tough opponent.”

After a run of matches that has seen them face the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool, West Ham, Arsenal, and Leicester City – as well as Man City last night – the Magpies will now end their campaign with back-to-back clashes against the already-relegated Sheffield United and Fulham.

Limited numbers of fans are set to be in attendance for both matches.
