Newcastle United transfer news: Toon target up for sale, Magpies set to advance talks

Newcastle United kept their impressive run of form going with a 2-0 win over Fulham on the final day of the season.

Despite spending most of the campaign embroiled in a relegation scrap, a string of eye-catching results in recent weeks ensured that the Magpies finished 12th in the table.

Steve Bruce’s men picked up three wins in their last five matches to edge their way away from the bottom three, and one of the key players in their success over the past couple of months has been Arsenal loanee Joe Willock.

The young midfielder hit seven goals in his final seven matches of the season, and understandably, there are now questions over whether the Toon Army will be able to lure him back to Tyneside next term.

Club legend Alan Shearer certainly hopes they can, at least.

He said: "He's exactly what Newcastle have been needing and missing and as I said, it's been a great signing by Steve Bruce because he offers Newcastle legs in that midfield.

"He drives forward and not many teams have been able to handle him.

"Look at the skill and pace he shows to get up there for the goal. He's full of confidence and so he should be. He's had a brilliant time at Newcastle.

"They have to try and break the bank and be desperate to try and keep hold of him. He's having fun in that Newcastle shirt.
