Newcastle United transfer rumours: Magpies set to battle for exciting Ligue 1 striker, Spurs man linked with shock La Liga exit

A win for the Magpies could see them move as high as 13th in the table, as Steve Bruce's side look to finish the season on a high after avoiding relegation with three games to spare.

Speaking ahead of the game, ex-Magpies man Warren Barton gave his verdict on Bruce's relationship with the Newcastle fan base, and claimed: “It is a possibility but I think it’s gone too far now. The comments that were said, the style of football at the beginning of the season – you can’t go and publicly argue with the fans.

“Some of the things that have been said on social media is not right – that’s not fair, particularly when it’s personal attacks on Steve and his family.

“My point of view is that he’s taken the club so far. This club should be going further, not the next level but two or three levels. The potential is there, the ambition is there with the fans, they just want their team to go out and perform, try and win games.

“If that’s being done, I think that is going to be a successful time for Newcastle because I believe there is a good squad of players there. If you can add to it with a bit more quality then they’ve got a real chance.”
