TeamTalk suggest that Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy is on the radar of the Magpies, with the 30-year-old set to see his contract at Selhurst Park this season.

The Irishman is reportedly willing to discuss a new deal with the Eagles, but has been told that no decisions will be made until Palace’s managerial situation is clearer.

That has alerted a number of clubs – with Newcastle, Celtic and Burnley all reportedly keen on a switch.

And McCarthy isn’t the only midfielder being eyed by Bruce, with The Sun claiming that Huddersfield Town’s Lewis O’Brien is also a target.
