Southgate has given the numbers one to 12 to the same players who wore them at Euro 2020, where they lost on penalties to Italy in the final at Wembley.

Right-back Trippier has the No.12 jersey, while Nick Pope, challenging Everton’s Jordan Pickford for a place in goal, has the No.13 shirt. Striker Wilson – who recovered from a hamstring injury in time to win his first call-up in more than two years – has the No.24 shirt. Miguel Almiron – who has been a revelation so far this season – wears that number at Newcastle.
