Paraguayan Almiron has been one of the early stars of the tournament in Brazil despite his side's disappointing opening draw with Qatar.

And as well as keeping an eye on their £21million man and former loan striker Salomon Rondon, who remains at the top of manager Rafa Benitez's wanted list, United are thought to be scouting another winger and international teammate of Rondon, Jefferson Savorino.

Savarino started on the right of midfield for Venezuela in their opening 0-0 draw with Peru, playing 69 minutes before being replaced by Cadiz loan man Darwin Machís.

The 22-year-old wideman currently plies his trade over in the MLS, like Almiron did, but not with Atlanta - Savarino plays for Real Salt Lake across the pond.

It's understood the player is available for around £6million. Takeover or not, or whether manager Benitez gets what he wants in contract negotiations, this is well within United’s budget.
