Defeats to Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City, all by a 2-0 scoreline, have slightly dampened what has been a brilliant season for Eddie Howe’s side to date.
But this weekend and a clash against 13th placed Wolves offers the Magpies a chance to get back to winning ways in front of their own supporters.
Julen Lopetegui’s side will prove to be a tough challenge for Newcastle though and will come into the game after an impressive 1-0 win over Champions League chasing Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Going into this game, Howe has to deal with Joelinton’s suspension and a couple of minor injury worries - but what starting side will he pick?
Here, we take a look at the starting XI Howe could select to face Wolves on Sunday.

2. GK: Nick Pope
Pope still has more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper this season, despite going over a month without collecting one. He will be wary of Ruben Neves after his stunning strike at Molineux in August. Photo: George Wood

3. RB: Kieran Trippier
Wolves have got some very exciting wide players on their books and Trippier will need to be on form to stop them, particularly on the counter where Wolves like to play. Photo: Laurence Griffiths

4. CB: Fabian Schar
Schar missed the trip to the Etihad Stadium and his replacement Jamaal Lascelles did very well in his absence. Lascelles may feel hard done by to be dropped this week, particularly when you consider his goal scoring record against Wolves. However, Schar’s work all season in the defence means if he is fit, then he will likely start. Photo: ADRIAN DENNIS
