FRENCH club Nice are hoping FIFA will make a U-turn to allow former Newcastle United forward Hatem Ben Arfa to play for them this season.
Nice have been blocked from registering Ben Arfa, whose contract at Newcastle was cancelled earlier this month, because FIFA’s transfer regulations do not allow players to represent more than two clubs in one season.
The Frenchman has played for Newcastle’s development side as well as Hull City, where he was on loan, this season.
Ben Arfa agreed to join Nice after his release from Newcastle, and legal experts are expected to analyse the case next week.
A club statement released by Nice today read: “The French Football Federation has received the international transfer certificate delivered by the English Football Association and has sent it this morning to the Ligue de Football Professionnel.
“The approval of contracts falls under the jurisdiction of the legal commission of the LFP.
“The commission should have met this afternoon. As far as the club has heard, it will meet finally on Tuesday to rule on the Hatem Ben Arfa dossier.”
