Eddie Howe has been speaking to the media today ahead of Friday night’s friendly match in Saudi Arabia.

The Magpies are currently away in Saudi Arabia for warm-weather training but there is still plenty of business to do with head coach Eddie Howe hoping to bring in at least a couple of new signings before Monday’s 11pm deadline.

So far Newcastle have signed Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid for £12million and Chris Wood from Burnley for £25million but a third new face has so far eluded them.

But the big transfer news at the moment is surrounding Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes following a reported €40million bid from Newcastle.

Lyon ‘close in’ on Guimaraes replacement

Lyon have reportedly opened talks with Brest to sign midfielder Romain Favre.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Lyon will use some of the money they receive for selling the Brazilian and ‘invest’ it in a bid for Favre.

L’Equipe report that Newcastle have submitted an improved offer of £35million plus £8million in add-ons. It’s claimed that an agreement is “close”.

Guimaraes, a defensive midfielder, has reportedly already agreed a contract.

The 24-year-old could undergo a medical today after playing for Brazil in a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador last night.

Magpies ‘eye’ Saints striker

Chelsea striker Armando Broja, who is currently on loan at Southampton, is reportedly the subject of a £33m bid from Newcastle United, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

Broja has impressed whilst on-loan on the south coast this season and following Southampton’s takeover by Dragan Solak, a Serbian TV mogul, the Saints reportedly wanted to make Broja the first ‘marquee signing’ of the new ownership.

Chelsea reportedly want the Albanian striker to continue his development on loan for the remainder of the season before they assess him during pre-season to see if he fits in their first-team plans or not.

Leeds, Wolves and Everton have also reportedly shown an interest in the striker.
