A CLUTCH of young players are set to find out whether they have futures at Newcastle United.

The club will assess the progress made by development squad players over the coming weeks.

Decisions have to be made. John (Carver) will be involved in that along with Steve Stone, Dave Watson, Lee Charnley and Graham Carr.

Several teenagers, including third-year scholars Tom Heardman and Jonathyn Quinn, are coming to the end of their deals.

“Decisions have to be made,” Beardsley told the Gazette. “John (Carver) will be involved in that along with Steve Stone, Dave Watson, Lee Charnley and Graham Carr.

“We’re all involved and we all have an opinion.

“It’s an awkward time of year, as some are guaranteed and already have pro contracts. It’s something that happens every year at this time.

Striker Heardman came off the bench to score an equaliser for Newcastle’s Under-21s in Monday night’s 1-1 draw against Stoke City at St James’s Park.

Beardsley added: “Some will have done themselves a favour (against Stoke).”
