Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot has had a successful operation on his injured knee.
Elliot ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament playing for the Republic of Ireland last week.
And the 29-year-old, set to be sidelined for six months, had surgery yesterday.
Elliot, outstanding between the posts for the relegation-threatened club this season, posted a photograph of himself in his hospital bed on Twitter.
He tweeted: "Successful op.road to recovery starts here Thanks for all the messages."
Karl Darlow will be in goal for the rest of the season in the absence of Elliot and No1 Tim Krul, who ruptured his ACL playing for Holland in October.
