Port Vale target staying at Newcastle – for now

WANTED ... Remie Streete.
WANTED ... Remie Streete.

REMIE Streete won’t be leaving Newcastle United on loan before Monday night’s transfer deadline – but the defender could yet return to Port Vale.

Streete was recalled from a two-month loan at Vale Park in November as he was needed as defensive cover.

And the 20-year-old is keen to return to the League One club for more first-team football if he is not needed at St James’s Park.

Newcastle, however, are not willing to loan out Streete in this month’s transfer window with Steven Taylor out for the season and Paul Dummett sidelined with a hamstring injury.

But Streete, from South Shields, could yet return to Vale when the Football League’s emergency loan window opens next month. The centre-half is out of contract in the summer, but Alan Pardew suggested he still had a long-term future at St James’s Park before he left to take over at Crystal Palace.

“He’s a player that I like,” said Pardew. “Hopefully, he’ll be staying and has a great career here.”

Streete was sidelined with a groin problem over the festive period.
