Newcastle United made impressive progress into the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup tonight.
Callum Smith was the star of the show in a 4-1 victory over Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
Owen Gallacher drove home Newcastle’s opener on the half hour, but Pompey rallied to level through Tommy Scutt four minutes later.
Newcastle were back in front before the break, though, as Lewis McNall headed in Smith’s cross.
The Magpies added a third goal on 55 minutes as Smith sent over a cross and Pompey defender Theo Widdrington turned the ball into his own net.
The lively Smith got the goal he deserved to make it 4-1 with 20 minutes left.
Portsmouth went close to a second strike in stoppage time, but Scutt’s effort hit the post.
