Financier Amanda Staveley, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and property investors David and Simon Reuben, has agreed a £300million deal for the club. The takeover has been with the Premier League for approval for almost two months amid moral, ethical and other objections.

Hatice Cengiz, the fiancee of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi, has asked the Premier League to block the deal over allegations that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the murder at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018.

Masters, according to the Daily Telegraph, has written to Rodney Dixon QC, Cengiz’s lawyer, informing him that he was “extremely sympathetic” to her position.

The Premier League has also had to consider the illegal streaming of Premier League games in Saudi Arabia following an objection from Qatar-based broadcaster beIN Sports.
