Premier League preview: Return to goals for Newcastle United?, Manchester United man looks for dream start, Chelsea lick their wounds

Can Newcastle United return to winning ways and maybe, just maybe, score a goal? Read about this weekend’s games in our Premier League preview:

Friday: Norwich City v Leicester City

The Friday night game that is always likely to catch a lot of Fantasy Football players out, Norwich City are hoping for the first step towards a miracle in this one. The Canaries have one win in 14 Premier League games, which clearly isn’t good enough. They did beat Manchester City at Carrow Road this season though, and Leicester City are without a win in three games. You never know!

Saturday: Brighton & Hove Albion v Crystal Palace

There is 37 miles between Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace, but this game has all of the intensity of a more ‘local’ derby. A Wilf Zaha thunderbolt nicked a point for Palace in the reverse fixture, and with Brighton only four points above the relegation zone, a win would do the world of good for the Seagulls.

Saturday: Bournemouth v Chelsea

Chelsea received a ‘reality check’ via a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. Bournemouth are in a tough spot under Eddie Howe, and are very much in the thick of the relegation scrap. Can they take advantage of a downtrodden Chelsea side?

Saturday: Newcastle United v Burnley

Newcastle United have failed to score in any of their last three Premier League games, losing the last two 1-0 and 4-0 to Crystal Palace and Arsenal respectively. In contrast, Burnley are flying and have four wins from their last five, with top striker Chris Wood coming back into the fold last week. The signs are ominous for Steve Bruce’s men ahead of this one.

Saturday: West Ham United v Southampton

Games don’t come much bigger than this one for West Ham United. David Moyes’ side are sitting in the relegation zone, and face a high-energy Southampton side that are far from ideal opponents. If the East London side lose this they will be in big trouble.

Saturday: Watford v Liverpool

Games played: 27. Games won: 26. Liverpool are a relentless winning machine, and even going behind twice to West Ham on Monday didn’t break their resolve. Watford have dropped off after a promising start by Nigel Pearson, and are now without a win in five. You’d guess that the run will extend to six.

Sunday: Everton v Manchester United

Gary Neville criticised Everton’s record in big games last week, and they have an opportunity to prove him wrong here. Odion Ighalo scored his first Manchester United goal in the Europa League on Thursday and will hope to find the net again here, in a game that will be vital in the race for European football.

Sunday: Tottenham Hotspur v Wolves

Spurs were lacklustre in defeat at Chelsea, and will need to raise their game to beat Wolves, who are specialists in beating the top sides in the Premier League. Nuno Esperito Santo’s men may be jaded from their trip to face Espanyol, though.
