Watford head coach Quique Flores says Watford’s No 1 priority at St James’s Park will be silencing Newcastle United’s fans.

Flores’ newly-promoted side recorded their first Premier League win of the campaign last weekend, beating Swansea City 1-0 at Vicarage Road.

Newcastle, however, are yet to win and prop up the table with five games played.

And Flores – who has talked of his “respect” for Steve McClaren, his opposite number, ahead of Saturday’s game – is looking to take advantage of the unease on Tyneside.

“We have positive emotions after our win over Swansea, but we must think about Newcastle,” said Flores.

“We respect them and they have a good coach. We will put pressure on them and our target will to be try and silence the stands.”

Flores has also backed Troy Deeney to get off the mark in the Premier League.

The striker has not scored in the club’s opening five games.

But Flores is confident Deeney, linked with Newcastle in the summer, will find his feet at the top level.

“If Deeney wants to score 20 goals again, it will be very difficult,” said Flores.

“But I don’t have any obsession with any situation in the team.

“The level of the opposition is very different. He has scored lots of goals for us in other years.

“But the level of defenders and teams are different, so we need a bit more from the players. They know that.

“I have no doubts over Troy. The Championship is different to the Premier League in terms of playing, the intensity and the quality.

“Deeney will score goals. He is a big player for us on the pitch.”
