Rafa Benitez hopes Kenedy will be worth his weight in goals to Newcastle United.
The winger is set to re-sign for the club on loan from Chelsea.
Kenedy spent the second half of last season on loan at St James’s Park – and helped the Magpies finish 10th in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old’s loan, which is “very close” to being completed, is expected to be confirmed ahead of United’s training camp in Ireland.
“I think it’s good for the fans and the team,” said manager Benitez.
“Everybody knows what he did last year. He was a great player for us.
I’m pushing him now. If he plays this season like he did last season, I will be happy, but still he has to score more goals.Rafa Benitez
“We knew, when we analysed last season, that after January, with Martin (Dubravka), Kenedy and also (Paul) Dummett coming back, we were stronger and getting better and better. That was the key to our position at the end.
“The fans will be excited to have Kenedy for another year.”
Kenedy made 13 appearances and scored two goals last season.
“I’m pushing him now,” said Benitez, speaking at the Foundation 1892 Cup yesterday.
“If he plays this season like he did last season, I will be happy, but still he has to score more goals.”
The proposed loan is not understood to include a clause allowing Newcastle to buy Kenedy next summer.
Benitez said: “I don’t know the conditions. I’m more focused on football issues.”
