The 20-year-old defender has been impressing in the heart of Real Valladolid’s backline this season.

And his form has reportedly alerted the Magpies, according to Spanish outlet pucelafichajes.com, along with Premier League rivals Everton, Sevilla and Schalke.

United are understood to be assessing their options ahead of the transfer window with a forward and a midfielder in the mould of Mo Diame, who was allowed to leave for Qatar after demanding a two-year extension.

Despite the priorities being further forward, United have proven in the past with the likes of Mikel Merino and Diame that they are willing to act on release clauses if they sniff a bargain. Given Salisu’s age he certainly fits the remit of players the Magpies are keen to recruit.
