Reporter receives 'categorical confirmation' over Newcastle United target's future, latest on Jesse Lingard

Another game. Another defeat. The pressure on Steve Bruce is getting greater by the day.

Newcastle United’s winless run extended to nine matches last night with a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal. Bruce vowed to take the gloves off. The Magpies registered just one shot on target.

But while Newcastle fans demand the 60-year-old vacates his head coach position, Bruce is in no mood to quit, again reaffirming his commitment.

When asked if he was the right man to lead the club, Bruce said: “I’ve been in it a long, long time.

"When you’re in the bottom half of the table, the reason why you’re there is some part of the season you’re going to have a difficult spell.

"It’s how you deal with it. I’m not going to shy away from it, so yes, 100%.”

So with Bruce under the limelight, transfer talk has taken a backseat, though that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

Football Insider linked Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien to Newcastle, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace this month, before later saying the Terriers were open to selling.

However, Steven Chicken, Huddersfield Town reporter for ExaminerLive, dismissed those claims.

He tweed: “Have received categorical confirmation that #htafc are NOT trying to find a buyer for Lewis O'Brien this month.

“Contrary to reports, no agency, top or otherwise, has been engaged to try and find a suitor. Every player has a price of course but O'Brien is towards the very bottom of the list of players they'd actively look to sell.”

Meanwhile, there is also an update on Jesse Lingard, a player previously touted with a move to St James’s Park.

Here’s a round-up of some of the other stories making the Newcastle and Premier League headlines this morning:
