Steve McClaren has revealed Cheick Tiote and Rolando Aarons are ‘close’ to returning to the Newcastle United squad.
However, the injured duo won’t be fit for Sunday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Tiote (groin) and Aarons (ankle) hope to both be fit for the busy festive schedule after spells on the sidelines.
But Sunday’s game at White Hart Lane has come too early for them, as well as defender Jamaal Lascelles.
“Squad-wise we are the same as we were last weekend,” said McClaren.
“Tiote is a couple of days away, Aarons also. Lascelles is out on the grass.”
