Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about the availability of Newcastle United’s Cheick Tiote, according to a report.
Tiote is no longer an automatic starter for the club he joined five years ago.
And the midfielder’s future is seemingly in the balance.
Tiote has been named as a substitute for the first four Premier League games of the season by new head coach Steve McClaren, who previously worked with the 29-year-old during their time together at FC Twente.
The Evening Standard report that Tottenham have made an enquiry about Tiote, though the club’s No 1 target is Zenit St Petersburg’s Axel Witsel.
