Steve Bruce to get extra help at Newcastle United with Graeme Jones set to join backroom staff

Newcastle United hope to confirm the appointment of Graeme Jones ahead of Leeds United's visit to St James’s Park.

Gateshead-born Jones, 50, is set to join Steve Bruce’s coaching team at the club ahead of tomorrow night’s game following talks over the past few days. The 50-year-old, first-team coach at Bournemouth under Jason Tindall, will work alongside Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence.

Bruce – who will speak to TV and radio broadcasters this morning ahead of the Leeds game – refused to discuss United’s move for Jones after Saturday night’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa. United’s head coach said: “I can’t really comment on that. There’s no comment on that.”

Jones – who had a spell as assistant to Belgium coach Roberto Martinez – left Luton Town last year with the club six points from safety in the Championship.

Meanwhile, the Villa defeat left Newcastle in 16th place and seven points above third-bottom Fulham, who have a game in hand.
