The Newcastle United striker limped off against Southampton a fortnight ago with a hamstring problem. However, the striker is back in training ahead of the Chelsea game – and is keen to play.

Winger Ryan Fraser, meanwhile, is definitely out with the hamstring problem he reported on the eve of the club’s visit to the St Mary’s Stadium.

“Ryan won’t make it, unfortunately, but Callum has got a chance,” said Bruce. “If there’s any risk whatsoever, he won’t play. He’s trained the last two days. We’ll see how he is today, and the boy wants to play. We have to make sure they’re 100% right.”
