Steve McClaren insists he wants Fabricio Coloccini to stay at Newcastle despite doubts over the defender’s future after he missed the friendly against Borussia Monchnegladbach today.
Coloccini has yet to feature this summer after struggling with an Achilles injury.
Doubts have been raised over the Newcastle skipper’s future, with former boss Alan Pardew understood to be keen to take him to Crystal Palace.
But McClaren insists he wants the Argentine international to stay at the club.
“I don’t see why not,” he said after being asked if Coloccini would stay at Newcastle.
“He’s got a year left on his contract.
“I’ve come in and they asked me to have a look at the players. I’ve looked and Coloccini is one player I said I want to be here.”
