Steve McClaren has praised his Newcastle United's players after this afternoon's defeat to Watford.

McClaren's relegation-threatened side were beaten 2-1 at Vicarage Road.

The club remains 18th place in the Premier League and a point adrift of safety.

Newcastle were found wanting at both ends of the pitch, but McClaren was happy with the attitude and application of his players.

McClaren said: “We won't have a problem if we keep doing that week in, week out.

"We just need to be more clinical and better at the other end – and better in both boxes, but I can't fault the players.

"Many people questioned, early-season, these players' attitudes and (asked) do they care?

"Of course they do. You saw that today, you've seen that in recent weeks.

"It's disappointing and frustrating for everybody, because we're not getting the results the performances deserve.”
