Eddie Howe has labelled under-fire Steve McClaren as an "outstanding manager".
Howe's Bournemouth beat McClaren's relegation-threatened Newcastle United side 3-1 at St James's Park on Saturday.
Fans chanted for the club's head coach to be sacked during the game.
But Bournemouth manager Howe said: "I do think he can come through this, because he is an outstanding manager.
"He has proved that over a long period of time."
Asked if he had "sympathy" for McClaren, Howe added: "I think sympathy ... I just wouldn't like that word used towards me.
"It's a tough situation for him, the club, the size of the club and expectation.
"But think they will be fine. It is tight and we are still involved. We can't consider ourselves out of it.
"The result has given us a boost. A lift, but plenty of games to go."
