Cheick Tiote's set to see out the season at relegation-threatened Newcastle United.

Tiote, open to a move away from St James's Park, has been in transfer limbo in recent weeks.

A proposed £4million move to Shanghai Shenhua broke down last month.

But Beijing Guoan were also keen on the 29-year-old, now in his sixth season at Newcastle.

Guangzhou Evergrande are also reportedly interested in signing the Ivory Coast international before the Chinese transfer window closes on Friday.

However, the Gazette understands a summer move is now more likely for Tiote, who was recalled to United's starting XI earlier this month.

United head coach Steve McClaren does not want Tiote to leave midway through the season.

McClaren worked with Tiote earlier in his career at FC Twente.
