Steven Taylor has been put on standby for West Bromwich Albion's visit to St James's Park.

Relegation-threatened Newcastle United lost three defenders to injury and suspension in last night's disastrous 3-0 defeat to Everton.

Embattled head coach Steve McClaren lost Chancel Mbemba and Paul Dummett to foot and hamstring injuries respectively.

And Jamaal Lascelles picked up a one-game suspension for his late dismissal.

McClaren, already without Massadio Haidara and Kevin Mbabu, hopes midfielder Jack Colback will have recovered from his hamstring problem in time to line up at left-back.

Taylor, meanwhile, hasn't played a Premier League game since August, but the 29-year-old has recovered from a long-term hamstring injury and is fit and available.

McClaren said: "We’ve got Steven Taylor, who is coming back to fitness. We have to look at the wounded and get a team out for Saturday."

Newcastle remain 18th in the league and two points adrift of safety.
