Newcastle United have been strongly linked with a move for Danny Rose.

However, the chances of Rose joining the club on loan appear slim at this stage of the transfer window, as Tottenham Hotspur want to sell the 29-year-old.

Rose – who was last week involved in a row with manager Jose Mourinho – has been touted to other Premier League clubs. Newcastle, meanwhile, are looking to take a left-back on loan for the rest of the season after losing Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett to season-ending injuries.

But the club is not interested in signing Rose – who has 18 months left on his contract – on a permanent basis either now or at the end of a half-season loan given his age.

Tottenham’s stance could change before the window closes, and if the club does decide to loan Rose, then United would be interested – assuming head coach Steve Bruce has not already recruited a left-back.
