Northampton Town’s Ivan Toney is due on Tyneside as Newcastle United edge closer to a deal for the teenager.
The Northampton Chronicle report that the striker is heading to the North East to meet club representatives.
However, a deal for the 19-year-old, while close, has not yet been reached.
Toney will become the club’s fourth summer signing.
Newcastle have already signed midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and defender Chancel Mbemba.
Toney has been regularly watched by United chief scout Graham Carr, who has a close association with Northampton.
Carr played for Northampton in the 1960s, and went on to manage the club after hanging up his boots.
