Ivan Toney's set for a run-out for Newcastle United's Under-23s in their pre-season opener.

Ben Dawson's side take open their campaign at Holker Street tonight (7.45pm kick-off).

A number of the club's players, including Sean Longstaff and Victor Longstaff, are away in Ireland with United's first-team squad.

Dawson is expected to include Toney, Dan Barlaser, Nathan Harker and Owen Bailey in his squad.

Toney – who has a wealth of League One experience – has been linked with Sunderland, who are looking to sign a striker this summer.

The 22-year-old, signed from Northampton Town in 2015, is not in senior manager Rafa Benitez's plans.
